Lots of Milestones

The other day was pay day Friday... and it marks a lot of accomplishments for SCB and I.

After a year and a half of paycheck deductions, I'm finally done buying back my retirement from when I was a little kiddo (16 years old-18 years old) working for the city before I was eligible to join CalPERS...

  • For those of you who aren't familiar with local government... If you worked for an agency before you were a full time employee with benefits, you are allowed to go back and calculate how many hours you worked before you became a full time employee, and then using your prior hourly salary, determine how much money you would have paid in if you were eligible for benefits... you also need to figure in the 6% interest the account would have earned per year with those funds in there.
  • Then you can have that money deducted from your paychecks over the course of a few months to a few years to retro actively add those hours and years worked to your current "service time" (the hours and years worked used when calculating your retirement benefits).
So after a year and a half of having $33.06 deducted from each of my paychecks... it stopped today :) my extra 0.8 years of service credit is bought and paid for. No more elected paycheck deductions for me :)

Happy dance time!

What is even bigger than that is that SCB has been working with Labor Ready this past week... and his boss is letting him have 2 weeks off without loosing his gig since he was able to give advanced notice this time... So SCB has a job to go back to after the wedding...

and, Drum roll please...

He has earned and saved enough money up to PAY BACK HIS PARENTS WHEN THEY COME OUT ON WEDNESDAY... and even a little pocket money for his bachelor party!
