The IRS calculator isn't up and running with the new tax information for 2011, so i guess i'll hold off for now and wait. I'm trying to pick up some extra work shifts here and there when I can, but it may mean shifting a few things around.
We still need to figure out what our married expenses will be before we start adjusting how much we get each month from my work. We may not need to put keith on my health insurance, but this depends on a few things.
A) how much it costs for him to be on his parents plan.
B) If this is less than the costs it would be for us to put him on my plan, we may pay his parents the costs to keep him on their plan till the end of 2011 when hopefully Keith will have a California job that he can get benefits through, or at least have income to offsett the new costs.
If this is the case, well see our income go up as we get to file married.
B) if we need to put him on our insurance right away, thats when our income will fall... especially while he doesn't have a california job.
He's still hunting out in Utah. He had a really good lead that dried up, so he's back out there trying to find something. ***crosses Fingers***
But we did call and get a quote to add him on to my insurance policy... so at least i have the "worst case" numbers on that... assuming his old '91 car will pass California SMOG standards.
Has he considered looking for a job in CA now? If he moved out near you now it would give you guys a chance to actually date before your wedding. Also, it would get him out of his parents house and at least a little experience living on his own. You're going to have your hands full with a new husband who's never lived away from his folks.
ReplyDeletewe've been talking about it and we decided that if he didn't find a job by March, we'd start seriously considering it.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is where to have him live before we are married. His parents won't be okay with us living together 3 months before the wedding unmarried, and any job that keith would be able to get wouldn't allow him to qualify for an apartment, nor actually afford one. Even renting a room from a stranger via craigslist still costs around $600-$800 a month. But if he's still jobless by March, well have to seriously consider every avenue we can.
Thankfully, he was able to apply at two places yesterday, and today he is going to check up on a lead at a place where one of his cousins works.
I think you made a wise decision about keeping your tax withholding the same for now. I would probably increase your CA withholding though because if you are due a refund come 2012, you might have to wait on it.
