Net worth huge increase!

Okay! How the heck did i go from 19,000 to 23,000? I finally got my statement from my CALPERS retirement... They are counting the year I worked as a PST in my retirement formula which means that it was far more then i expected... and i hadn't added any of that money into my networth.

It will also go up slightly in December when i get paid because that changes one of the factors in the formula... after that it won't change till next year if i make more money then I make this year.

Which means this months race was totally won! woot.

  1. Huge congratulations to you on seeing such a growth!

I'm totally obsessed with my networth now. I'm making myself laugh, but it will be no laughing matter when things start to really fall in place for me.

Since last week when I first happened upon your blog and the link to the networth website, I've opened a personal RRSP account, something I'd been thinking about, but hesitant to do. Thank you much!

  2. How are you counting $$ that you don't own yet as part of your net worth? You have to be vested for a certain amount of years before any of that $$ truly becomes yours. No matter your best intentions/plans, it's virtually impossible to guarantee you'll stay at that job for the necessary amount of time! You're cheating yourself and everyone else who reads this blog by claiming it as your own before it actually is.

  3. Actually I'm already vested and it is my money.

The amount i posted IS what I'd get if i quit right now. But i appreciate your input and i hope you read this and continue to know that I wouldn't do something like that.

  4. My apologies, I was going by information in your Nov. 12th post:

"So assuming I stay here for 5 years to get vested ... here's the pretty formula:"

Something doesn't add up since that was a 2007 post! Have you already been in your position for 5 years? Not trying to be hostile in any way, just want to point this out. Make sure you're counting what's yours--it wouldn't be fun to find out you still only have a % of it. Darn vesting schedules anyway...

And I love reading your blog!
