I find that when we are more mindful with our spending, we enjoy the things we do as a family more... and we enjoy the things we already have because we aren't buying everything that comes across our radar of "oooohhhhh, that's cool...."
We had a pretty productive month in terms of our house renovations.
Ceilings were painted, we got a new kitchen table, bed, AND we made gobs of progress on operation build a custom closet from Ikea to remove the death trap closet we inherited when we moved... so we spent some serious $$$$.
I'm really proud that we nailed out grocery budget for the month. We went $13 over, but we didn't have ANY fresh food in our house when we came back from Utah, so we had to buy groceries for 5 weeks... and we only spent $65 on eating out... All of which was mostly PLANNED, which is another victory. We only had 1 emergency dinner "lunch" when we realized we needed to go to Ikea a second time because we forgot to buy hinges, but other than that it was a work lunch here or there when Hubs got stuck driving with a microwave lunch... or I was working late for an event so the boys planned to have little cesars so cooler heads would prevail.
