What we Spent in January

It's the end of the month round up so how did we do for January? Well, if we first take a look at our monthly goals, I say job well done us. We serviced my car and were able to cash flow the repairs, even with our wimpy car repair fund that was eradicated last month.

We saved $500 to our emergency fund, bringing is closer to getting it up to a full 6 months of expenses with the baby ($16,500.00 so just under $1,500 to go!)

As for Food storage, I finally tracked down when the cannery is open (Thursday nights or Saturday mornings) and we put together a shopping list and the $130 we need aside to make the purchases... but then we realized STORAGE was going to be a problem because I wanted to get a total of 32 #10 cans... Which we have no idea where to put yet...

So all of this is all moving to Feb... but the highlighted items we NEED to get and will most likely be picked up on Saturday morning...
  • 2 #10 cans of Pinto Beans
  • 6 #10 cans of Flour
  • 1 #10 can of Macaroni
  • 2 #10 cans of powdered nonfat milk
  • 2 #10 cans of quick oats
  • 2 #10 cans of regular oats
  • 3 #10 cans of potato flakes
  • 4 #10 cans or rice
  • 1 #10 can of spaghetti
  • 4 #10 cans of sugar
  • 4 #10 cans of red hard wheat
  • 1 #10 can of white wheat
  • Plus 1 25 lbs bag of hard red wheat
$130.50 (This will show up on February's spending since I closed the month out on Friday)

Either way, this is what we need to have on hand for 3 months of basics (minus the 25 lbs of wheat) for long term food storage for our family size. but we have to figure out where we are going to put 32 #10 cans first before we buy them!

As for spending, we did go over on eating out but we had a couple of nights were there were 2 pregnancy prep classes in the same week and if we didn't do a drive thru, we wouldn't have made it. We also accepted a last minute outing to see friends at a restaurant which put us over the top but was so worth it to see some people and get out of the house and be social.... then we celebrated the raise with another date night. We figure we won't get too many when the baby gets here so we are trying to make the most of our time together before there is 3 of us.

I also needed to get a few more bras and some bra "gadgets" to be a bit more comfortable....  then we broke Roxy's leash some how so it no longer retracted so we had to get her a new one.... We had to pay $100 for our baby prep class...

Then there were a lot of "soda" purchases by SCB this month to get him through the boring pregnancy classes and some long driving days (but thankfully they are hiring a 5th man at the store just in time to train him before this baby gets here)...

SCB also lost the keys to the house... and the cars.... and it wasn't until we actually made new ones of everything that he found his old ones with the Christmas lights... apparently he put them on the shelf up there with the lights when he was putting them away and forgot about them... until we found them 2 weeks later just after replacing the rest of the keys at home depot...

A few odds and ends...

and then SCB bought my Push Present (an Origami Owl locket) -- since we are going to try to go for a vaginal birth if the doctors will let me... and while i'm telling myself that if I choose drugs i'm not a failure, we are going to see how far I can get without them so that meant I got him his "squeeze" presents (I'm hoping the small lego sets he wanted can keep him preoccupied in the hospital if I'm admitted early for some reason.... or act as an apology in case I'm not the most ideal woman during delivery and yell at him or break his hand or something like that).

So I say we did pretty good with January!

    1. I've never heard of a squeeze present. What is that? I had two vaginal births without drugs. My advice to you is to stay focused on the outcome of meeting your baby. Labor does hurt but every contraction is moving the baby further down. You can do it :).

      1. I kind of made it up because I wanted a push present...

SCB wasn't really into our Lamaze birth coaching classes at first and they were hard for him to participate in because our teacher is a real big hippie.... So I bribed him with a few small lego build sets for helping me in the delivery process... (I called them a Squeeze present incase i break his hand or something).
